Thursday, January 27, HARDMAN NEWS Hardman Gives $55 To Birthday Fund By OPAL HASTINGS On Monday Mrs. Clary sent to Joseph Nys, treasurer of the Roose velt birthday fund, $55.02 which is the major part of Hardmans contri bution. The largest money-making project was the quilt. After due considera tion Less Robinson chose 219 to be especially lucky, and his guess was right. A birthday party was given Fri day at the grade school, in honor of Mrs. James Brannon and Miss Iris Morton. Refeshments consisted of coffee and cake. Besides the mem bers of the club and grade school, Mrs. Lucy Rodgers was a special guest. Mrs. J. W. Stevens and Miss Loes Stevens were visitors in Heppner Saturday. The quilters held an all-day ses sion Wednesday at the school and at noon they and the hgih school had a dinner consisting of oyster "soup, sandwiches, crackers, cocoa, coffee and assorted cookies. Besides the high school and Mr .and Mrs. G. I. Clary, there were present Mrs. Roy Robinson, Mrs. Dick Steers, Mrs. Max Buschke, Mrs. Carey Hastings, Mrs. Stanley Robinson, Mrs. Neal Knighten, Mrs. Maude Robison, Mrs. Owen Leathers. Mrs. Lewis Batty. Mrs. Lucy Rodgers visited and gave tests at the grade school Fri day. Creston Robinson was absent from school last week because of trouble with his eyes. Miss Frances Inskeep has been ill for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Moore visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Knighten Sunday. Fred Gallagher motored to Ukiah Monday. J. L. Gault and Mrs. Josephine Mahoney visited at the B. H. Bleak man home Saturday evening. Mrs. Duff McKitrick and son Rog er have been visiting at the home of Mrs. Raymond McDonald for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Howell have moved to the Tyndal Robison ranch to make wood. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson were business visitors in Heppner Satur day. Mildred Clary was on the grade school spelling honor roll this week. Mrs. Ethel McDaniel was hostess at a party given Monday evening in honor of Vera on her birthday. The evening was spent in playing games and dancing. Refreshments consist ed of sandwiches, pickles, jello, cake, cocoa and candy. It was an enjoy able evening for all present. Ollie Hastings and Alene Inskeep were, absent from school last week on account of illness. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fraters of Heppner were visiting Mrs. Fraters parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Galla gher, over the week end. The officers for the second semes ter in Miss Morton's room are Ollie Hastings, president and game chair man; Alene Inskeep, vice-president; Nona Inskeep, secretary; Mildred Clary, librarian. Mrs. Stanley Robinson was ill at her home the first of last week. Mrs. Frank McDaniel was a visitor in Heppner for a few days last week. Dale Bleakman was visiting friends here Saturday. . Mr. and Mrs. Carl McDaniel were visitors at the Owen Leathers home over the week end. They went to their home in Lonerock Monday. Mrs. Walter Wright was taken to Portland by her brother, Darrel Far rens, to consult a physician. Mr. Wright accompanied her. Patsy Ann is staying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Farrens. Monte McDaniel burned his hand quite badly Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Charley McDaniel have returned from Arlington where they have been working for the past few months. The scheduled dance to be held in Hardman has been postponed to February 5, due to the dances being held in different places on the Pres ident's birthday. Mrs. Richard Robison was taken to Heppner to consult a physician last week. Misses Annie and Molly Mclntyre spent the week end here visiting their mother, Mrs. Tom Mclntyre, 1938 Heppner from Pendleton where they are at tending St. Joseph's academy. Maxine McDaniel started to school here Monday. She is staying with her grandmother, Mrs. Maud Robi son. Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hastings were calling in Heppner Monday. Bill Mahrt of Hamilton was a bus iness vsiitor here last week. Marion Cork of Monument was visiting here Friday. Victor Logren and family were visitors here Sunday. Lewis Batty and Guy Chapin mo tored to Heppner Friday. Ralph Marlatt of Heppner was a visitor here Sunday. Among business visitors to Hepp ner Monday were Guy and Leon Chapin and Dick and Gus Steers. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Robinson visited here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adams and children were here Sunday. William Greener motored to Hepp ner Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Batty and son Gilbert visited at the L. C. Batty home Sunday. Herbert McDaniel visited relatives here last week. Tyndal Robison and Richard Rob ison were visitors in Heppner Mon day. The last "Let's Talk" club meet ing was held at the usual time with a long but interesting session. The following officers were elected: Mrs. Muriel McCutcheon, president; Miss Iris Morton, vice-president; Mrs. Roy Robinson, secretary; Mrs. Irl Clary, sergeant-at-arms, and Don ald Robinson, business manager. The "Community Sing" had a large attendance the last time. Accompan ied by Ed McDaniel on the banjo, Marvin and Perry Adams sang two songs, "My Dear Old Sunny South by the Sea" and "Hand Me Down My Walking Cane." Yvonne Hastings gave a reading, "My Shadow." The grade school gave a skit entitled "Melodrammer." BENEFIT PROGRAM SOON A benefit program for the infantile paralysis fondation is to be given in the school auditorium Thursday, Feb. 10. The band will present a brief concert, followed by musical numbers by the high school chor uses. The seniors will then present a one-act burlesque, entitled "Idyl ligs of the King." ISOM Members of the several 4-H clubs who carried projects through last year met at the home of Mrs. Fred Houghton Saturday to reorganize for the coming year. Marion Cork of Monument was a business visitor here Thursday and Friday, purchasing seven head of milk cows from W. C. Isom, and had them taken by truck by Batie Rand and Don Isom to his home Friday. R. V. Jones and family visited rel atives at Lexington Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson moved to the James Warner cabins east of town Monday. Mr. Adams will move his family to the E. Fagerstrom place which he purchased recently, this week. Ernest Bediwell and Miss Neva Blair were married at Sunnyside, Wn., Thursday of last week and will make their home at Stanfield where they are taking over the Pentecostal work. The dredge finished work on the Columbia river channel Friday and left for Portland Sunday. Mrs. Hoagland visited her daugh ter, Mrs. Roy Brown, in Stanfield last week. , Mrs. Ray Olmstead entertained the members of the Pep club at her home Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Frank Fredrickson and Mrs. Harry Smith were joint hostesses at the Smith home Monday at a shower honoring Mrs. Will Norcross. About twenty were present and many lovely gifts were presented to the honoree by friends. A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stevens Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Mathers are the parents of a new son born Sun day. He has been named Robert Neal Mathers. Mrs. Charlie Plourd and children of Pendleton are visiting at the W. D. Neill home. Walter Wigglesworth of Echo was a caller on the creek Sunday. The quilting at the Roy Neill home was enjoyed by all. February 3rd is the date for the next quilting at the A. E. Wattenburger home. Men are also invited. Fred Rauch, Jr., who has been working at Elk River, Idaho, is visit ing at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rauch. Mrs. Ray Wright has been visit ing at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Barton Clark. She returned to Heppner Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Healy and fam ily were visiting in Heppner Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lee of Hermis ton and Mrs. Evelyn Woods and daughter were callers at the Clayton Ayers home Thursday evening. Fred Rauch Jr., Mrs. Fred Rauch and Lilly Rauch were callers in Hermiston Saturday. Lon Knotts and daughter, Mrs. Helen Currin, spent Thursday after noon "Visiting at the John Harrison home.
